What is BPC-157?
BPC-157, short for Body Protection Compound 157 and also referenced as PL 14736, is a synthetic pentadecapeptide with the sequence GEPPPGKPADDAGLV (CAS 137525-51-0, molecular formula C62H98N16O22, molecular weight 1419.5 g/mol).[1] It is derived from a partial sequence of a protein originally isolated from gastric juice.[2]
Research background
BPC-157 has been studied extensively in preclinical models, mostly in rodents. Published examples include studies of transected Achilles tendon in rats and of tendon fibroblast (tendocyte) growth in vitro.[1] A 2025 literature and patent review summarizes the range of preclinical models in which BPC-157 has been examined.[2] A separate 2025 narrative review notes that published human data are limited to a small number of pilot studies, and that most of the evidence base is preclinical.[3]
